New School Year!
Well it’s that time of year again! Summer’s over and the kids have started going back to school. I hope they all have a great year!
Seems like just yesterday I was getting you girls off for your first day of school, now you’re wearing those shoes.
Kids grow up too quickly and before you know it, they are adults too!
Two more cards!
I made this card for one of Rudy’s work buddies, he’s retiring!

I made this card for Rudy’s Mom (Lita) to thank her for visiting us last week.

Of course they are made from scraps that Gina has given me. Thank you Gina!
Hot Weekend!
Was 106 this weekend, that’s way too hot to be outside. Supposed to be in 90’s today and cool more as the week goes on.
Kaitie spent the weekend with us while Gina, Joe and Jakob were in Oregon.
Poor Lucy! She knocked herself out yesterday running crazy like always. Luckily Rudy was outside when she hurt herself and brought her in out of the heat. She ran straight into the side of our shop! She was out of it about 5 mins, then I put her to bed and she slept most of the rest of the afternoon. Finally she was up and about, playing. She has a very bloodshot eye!
We celebrated Stuart’s birthday, was quite the sight watching them crack open the crabs they were eating for dinner, Kaitie helped too!
I took a few pics of the vegetables in the garden, hope to get them on here soon!
New cake recipe!
Jakob brought home from school a new cake recipe he has wanted me to make for him all summer. We had to wait for ripe tomatoes to be able to be picked and we finally have some from their garden.
They brought some over and this morning I pureed some for the cake recipe.
The name of the recipe is: My Grandma’s Thunder Cake
It’s actually a chocolate cake, we’ll see if they all like eating it.
Recipe:
My Grandma’s Thunder Cake
Cream together, one at a time:
1 cup shortening
1/1/2 cup sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla
3 eggs, separated (Blend yolks in. Beat egg whites until they are stiff, then fold in.)
1 cup cold water
1/3 cup pureed tomatoes
Sift together:
2 1/2 cups cake flour
1/2 cup dry cocoa
1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda
1 teaspoon salt.
Mix dry mixture into cream mixture.
Bake in two greased and floured 8 1/2 inch round pans at 350 for 35-40 minutes.
Frost with Chocolate Buttercream Frosting.
Top with Strawberries (I didn’t have any strawberries.)
